A glance to the history of Ekaterinburg

Ekaterinburg is an ancient city. It was founded in the 18-th century by Russia tsar Peter the Great. It was a large industrial center of Urals and of the whole country. Having very good geographical position, on the border between Europe and Asia, Ekaterinburg became a very important trade center.

In the XX-th century it became the administrative center of the Urals. Many plants were constructed in the city, which brought to a considerable increase in population.

Nowadays Ekaterinburg plays a very important role in the economical, educational and cultural life of the country. It can be reached on Russian cruises. It is a great way to supplement your Moscow vacation or St Petersburg travel.

Ekaterinburg is a city that was the center of historical events that changed the course of development of the country. Ekaterinburg is the city where the last ussia tsar Nikolai II and the members of his family were killed.

Nikolay came to the throne in 1894. He ruled the country in the most difficult times for Russia. The World War I weakened the county and lead to Revolution, which took place in 1917. After evolution Nikolay was arrested and killed with his family in Ekaterinburg in 1918. Their remains were burned and hidden. Only in 1979 the remains were discovered, but unfortunately could not be exhumed for political reasons.

When in 1991 Bois Yeltsin became Russia president he ordered to retrieve the remains. The experts from different countries came for investigation and proved that the bones were those of the members of Imperial family.

On the place where stood the Ipatiev house, where the family members had spend their last days a beautiful Cathedral-on-the-blood was built. The grand opening took place in 2003.

Irkutsk
